RE: Wireless Router Problem
You should have to use some server so that you can easily get your ip address via router and then to your computers. It is dispatch methods use into the coding so that it could not see the original ip but saw the redirected IP.

RE: Wireless Router Problem
f you just want to share your connection then why not get a dlink network switch? Anyways as far as the wifi router is concerned id recommend getting a linksys WRT54G2.You can flash it with an open source firmware like DD-WRT or any other routers based on broadcom chipset.

RE: Wireless Router Problem
Second thing is we have a home network and we used to have a cable modem connection and the home network worked fine. I've recently moved home and took the opportunity to get a wireless router/modem and a wireless card for my computer and
Now the problem I have is this, when connecting the server to the wireless router I get an IP address from the router going to the server fine and we have switched off DHCP on the router so that an IP address can be given to the laptop from the server internally, but this does not happen. I get a private IP address instead.

RE: Wireless Router Problem
Typically you'll need the assistance of your ISP. They'll need to route a new IP to your premises.

VPN and SSH tunnels are also ways to provide a more secure connection if you're worried about the public WAP you're on.
